MALAYSIANS can look forward to the Digi GeGeRiuh 2007 two-day carnival, which will kick off at Danga Bay, Johor Baru on May 12 and 13.

This event, organised by DiGi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd in cooperation with the Youth and Sports Ministry and the Royal Malaysian Police, will be taking place at eight states. After Johor, it will move on to Malacca, Penang, Sarawak, Sabah, Tereng-ganu, Selangor and Kuala Lum-pur.

Make some noise: Amy Search will also be lending his voice to the carnival.
The opening event promises fun and excitement with appearances and performances by Amy Search, Ella, Dayang Nurfaizah, Saiful Apek, Farah Wahida, Noryn Aziz, Ruffedge and Ahli Fikir.

Taken from the colloquial Kelantanese Malay vocabulary, GeGe means thunderous or earth shattering while Riuh means noise or cacophony and, therefore, the carnival is all about creating a thunderous impact.

“We are really excited about the event. We at Digi have always been supportive of the government’s efforts in nation building,” said Digi segments and marketing head Loong Tuck Weng.

Vocal beauties:
Ella (right) and Dayang Nurfaizah were also present during the launch.
He said this was the second consecutive year that DiGi was organising GeGeRiuh.

“The event promises to be bigger and better and will involve the community through a series of healthy lifestyle activities such as extreme sports demonstrations and crime-fighting exhibitions.

Visitors can take part in rock climbing, paintball, futsal and skateboarding. Other attractions include cappoiera, silat, kickboxing and various motor sports activities.

The police will have public awareness activities that include martial arts and self-defence demonstrations, weapon display, helicopter stunts, police tattoos and parachute shows.

“It is a carnival for people of all ages. This is how we reward our customers for their support by providing them a platform to support our local artistes,” added Loong.

Wait a minute.

Isnt " Gege " ( pronounce : Gae-gae ) supposed to mean " noisy in a disturbing way " ?

There's one expression " Gege Gegok "
( pronounce : Gae-Gae-Guh-Gock ) which means " making too much noise and havoc ".
